Suspect shot by pharmacist in attempted robbery in Luling

A man who apparently attempted to steal drugs at gunpoint at the Thrift Village Drugs Store in Luling was himself fatally wounded.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Mark Fisher Jr., 36, of Madisonville.

Deputies responded to a call just prior to 6 p.m today (Jan. 21) of an attempted armed robbery and shooting.

Deputies learned that a masked man entered the store with a handgun and ordered the clerk and the pharmacist to go behind the counter, and then demanded drugs, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

A scuffle ensued where the pharmacist drew his own weapon and fired at the robber who fled the store on foot.

The perpetrator sustained at least one gunshot wound and was able to run about 100 yards out and around the store where he collapsed in the rear of the strip mall and died, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The perpetrator is a white male, thin build, with short hair and has not yet been identified by the Sheriff’s Office.
