Spray parks open for summer with thousands expected to visit this season

West Bank and Ormond Spray Parks opened for the summer Tuesday, June 3.

The West Bank Spray Park was completed last summer and had its ribbon cutting on July 30 last year. This is the first year that West Bank Spray Park will be open for the full summer season.

“We’re excited to offer consistent access on both sides of the river all summer long,” said Grayson Touchard, a spokesperson for the parish’s parks and recreation department.

The parks are open Tuesday through Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Starting June 6, the parks will open at 10 a.m. on Fridays.

Ormond Spray Park is located at 1901 Ormond Boulevard in Destrehan inside of the Ormond Community Park. The West Bank Spray Park is located at 274 Judge Edward Dufresne Parkway in Luling.

Each summer, about 2,000 residents visit the parish’s spray parks.

“We hope to see even more this year as we expand full-season access to both locations,” Touchard said. “These parks offer a fun, safe, and refreshing way to spend a summer day, and we’re looking forward to seeing our community come out and enjoy them.”

The Ormond Spray Park received an updated and recoated surface to improve safety and enhance the experience for visitors, Touchard said.

She said safety is a top priority and she encourages all visitors to review the spray park rules and guidelines before attending. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Children 62 inches or under are allowed entry. No food is allowed on the spray pad and glass containers are strictly prohibited. Pets are not allowed in the spray park area. Proper swim attire is required, and infants must wear a rubber liner or swim diaper.
