Solve a Mardi Gras murder during cheese tasting in Norco

Those looking to combine murder mystery with a little bit of Mardi Gras flair need look no further than Norco’s Bluebird Boards.

The charcuterie board business will host a cheese tasting party with a murder mystery twist on Jan. 20 and Jan. 26 called Murder at the Masquerade. The Jan. 26 event is already sold out, while a few spots remain for Jan. 20.

“I hosted a few murder mystery dinners last year and they were very well received,” owner Monica Carruth said. “I knew I was going to pick it back up in 2024 and what better way to kick it off than with a Mardi Gras-themed murder mystery.

“Guests have so much fun dressing up and playing their character throughout the night. I can’t wait to see how it plays out with everyone in masks for the masquerade.”

Once guests arrive, they will be shown to the parlor. The first 30 minutes are spent mingling and enjoying the buffet, which may include options such as a loaded hummus platter, cheese stuffed tortellini, pasta salad and Mexican street corn chicken salad.

The game itself plays out in three acts with the introduction of characters and possible motives, evidence and then the reveal. In between each act the guests are served two cheeses with accompaniments. The cheeses sampled that night are available for purchase as the guests leave.

“The overall response to the murder mystery dinners has been inspiring,” Carruth said. “I think that what I’m offering here at Bluebird is different from anything else you will find in the River Parishes region. Residents are excited to have an opportunity to get together with friends in this unique setting right here in Norco.”

Carruth added that she is humbled every day by the support she’s received since opening a little more than a year ago.

“I’ve developed a regular customer base for my lunch offerings and my catering menu has really taken off, especially around the holidays,” she said. “The big picture since day one included lunch, catering and cheese tasting parties. I plan to continue to let the good times roll in 2024.”

The Jan. 20 Murder at the Masquerade will take place from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $50 per person and includes the interactive murder mystery game, buffet, six cheese tastings, water, tea, coffee and desert. You can bring your own wine and spirits.

Bluebird Boards is located at 15616 River Road, Suite B in Norco. To RSVP, call Carruth at (504) 909-3013.
