The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office has invited residents throughout the parish to join in the Night Out Against Crime event Oct. 21 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Homeowners, apartment dwellers and businesses are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights for security and spend the evening with their neighbors and deputies outside demonstrating solidarity against crime.
Neighborhoods planning a night out party should contact Jessica Kolb at jkolb@stcharlessheriff.com or call 985-783-1355 ext. 2030 to register for the event.
Sgt. Jenni Barrette, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, said residents can expect block parties throughout the parish hosted by residents, businesses and organizations to rally against crime.
“Members of [the sheriff’s office] will visit parties to connect with the community and bring various equipment for demonstration,” Barrette said.
She said National Night Out is essential to the community.
“It brings everyone together to increase crime and drug prevention awareness,” Barrette said. “We hope that residents take a stand with us.”
She said the partnership between the sheriff’s office and residents is important to unify the community and collectively take a stand against crime.
“The objective here for National Night Out is to bring together as many residents, businesses, and organizations in our community as we can to give crime a going-away party,” she said.
