Parish council approves new Montz pump station

A new Montz pump station should be designed by the end of the year, according to St. Charles Parish Public Works Director Miles Bingham.

“The recently completed master drainage plan for Montz recognized this as a priority,” Bingham said at a recent parish council meeting.

At the meeting, council members unanimously passed an ordinance to approve and authorize the execution of an Agreement for Professional Services with GIS Engineering, LLC. Bingham said the agreement is for design and construction services related to the pump station and is set to not exceed $688,156.

The new pump station will be the second one in Montz. Bingham said the current pump station at Prescott is older but has been upgraded a couple of times.

“What the study showed us is that we really needed a pump station closer to the area where the water is being generated in the community,” Bingham said. “The most issues in the modeling was in the area south of the CN railroad towards the river.”

Bingham said the new pump station will be placed either north or south of the railroad, noting the exact location will be driven by environmental and other considerations. He said the new pump was listed as the highest priority item for Montz in the master drainage plan.

“There are some other things that need to be done, but this is the biggest cost and one of the things that will have the biggest impact,” Bingham said.
