Library gears up for Alice in Wonderland meet and greet

Residents will soon be able to meet and take photos with Alice and the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland fame when the pair visits the East Regional Library in Destrehan on Saturday, April 13 from 11 a.m. until noon.

But that’s not all that’s taking place that day. Those in attendance will be able to “Pin the Grin” on the Cheshire Cat, take part in an Alice in Wonderland-themed scavenger hunt, play indoor croquet and color in a coloring station.

These activities are part of Page Meets Stage, which is a partnership between the St. Charles Parish Library and the Lafon Performing Arts Center. The goal of the program is to merge experiences with literature or the library with live art performances at the Lafon Arts Center.

The Lafon Arts Center will host Alice…Dreaming of Wonderland on Friday, April 19.

While the character meet and greet is geared towards children, the library also will have a book discussion for adults in collaboration with the Alice…Dreaming of Wonderland performance.

“For these book discussion programs, participants get a ticket to the show and a copy of a related book,” Maria Bilello, adult programing and outreach librarian, said. “We will meet to discuss the book on April 25 at the East Regional Library in Destrehan after watching the show at the Lafon Center on April 19.”

She added that registration for the adult book discussion typically fills up quickly. Registration opens on March 28 and you can register online at www.myscpl.org.

There is no registration required for the character meet and greet on April 13.

“Alice and the Mad Hatter will be at the library from 11 am – noon, so we encourage people to come within that time frame to make sure they get their photos,” Bilello added. “Participants will pose for pictures with Alice and the Mad Hatter and interact with them in character. We encourage everyone to bring their own camera.”

The Alice…Dreaming of Wonderland show is not a traditional Alice in Wonderland performance since acrobats are the stars of that show. Bilello said the characters at the meet and greet will be the traditional Alice and the Mad Hatter that resemble the animated characters.
