A “flash mob” of dancers braved some cold weather and took the field at Tiger Stadium at Hahnville High School to showcase their moves – all for a good cause.
That Feb. 20 performance raised money for the American Heart Association, one part of Luling Realtor Regina Allemand’s Woman of Impact campaign to raise money and spread awareness about heart health and the importance of CPR training.
“I prayed for no rain – but I forgot to ask for no arctic blast,” said Allemand with a smile, on a night of an approximately 40-degree temperature. “But several warm-hearted people showed up.”
The choreographed dance number was put together by Hahnville Hi-Steppers’ Captain Ashlyn Rogers. Allemand sent out a video of Rogers’ performance to the participants-to-be. When everyone took the field, they danced to several different songs, all along a heart-related theme.
Prior to the dance performance, attendees were able to learn about CPR and even train some new skills in that department, upon a CPR practice dummy brought for the occasion.
CPR awareness is near and dear to Allemand, who will tell you it’s why she is still here with us.
Allemand went into cardiac arrest in 2021, and her husband Norbert’s knowledge of CPR ultimately saved her life. Her story is what inspired the AHA to reach out and nominate her as one of 10 Women of Impact in the New Orleans-area. The hope is to inspire others to take action and save lives. Each team will raise funds for the AHA cause. The nominee that raises the most funds and drives the greatest local impact will be named the Local Woman of Impact winner.
