With Lenten season upon us, many observers may be looking to plan their Friday menus for the next five weeks.
Because it’s traditional for Catholics to abstain from eating meat on Fridays during Lent, many local churches and organizations offer special meals throughout the Lenten season.
St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 2409 will sell $10 fish plates or gumbo and potato salad meals each Friday until April 8. Drinks and desserts will also be sold by the youth group. The meals will be offered from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 234 Angus Dr. in Luling.
Knights of Columbus Red Church Council 3634, located at 375 Spruce St. in Norco, will also offer meals every Friday during Lent from 4-7 p.m. Catfish, shrimp or a combo with sides will be available for $13.
Mt. Zion Community Church, located at 107 Magnolia Ridge Road in Boutte, will offer weekly meals until April 8. The $10 fish fry plates will be sold from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call 504-275-9190. Delivery is available for orders of five or more plates.
On March 25, April 1 and April 8 St. Charles Borromeo Church in Destrehan will sell $15 fried fish plates. The meals will be sold from 5-7 p.m. at the church, which is located at 13396 River Road in Destrehan.
On March 11 the KCs of Holy Family Catholic Church of Luling, located at 155 Holy Family Lane, will sell fried catfish, white beans with shrimp, salad and bread. On March 25 shrimp etouffee with sides will be sold. All meals will be $10, and desserts will also be available for purchase. Meal sales will begin at 5 p.m. and continue until meals are sold out.
