St. Charles Parish Birthday party

HAHNVILLE – Join residents and parish officals as they celebrate the Parish’s 200th birthday on Saturday, March 31 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the parish courthouse located at the parish courthouse located at 15045 River Road. DESTREHAN – The St. Charles Parish Bicentennial Gala & Art Show, hosted by the River Road Historical Society, is on tap at Destrehan Plantation in Destrehan beginning March 30 at 6:30 p.m. The event celebrates the parish through history, music and arts beginning with a reception in the Plantation House. Guest will enjoy a plantation punch while taking a self-guided tour of the house.

River Region Ballet at DHS

DESTREHAN – The River Region Ballet will present Celebrating 200 Years of Diverse Cultures Through Dance, for the parish’s Bicentennial. Performances are Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. at Destrehan High School. Tickets are $15. Call 985-764-7678.

DES ALLEMANDS – St. Gertrude Catholic Church is hosting a dance on Saturday, March 31 from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Father Mac Community Center. Music by Cypress Country. $10 per couple. BYOL.

7,000 eggs in Easter egg hunt

DES ALLEMANDS – The Life Fellowship Community Church in Bayou Gauche will host a Jam-tastic Easter egg hunt March 31 at the Bayou Gauche Volunteer Fire Department ball field. Activities begin at 10:30 a.m. Seven thousand eggs will be hidden for children along. More fun and games, too. Admission is free.

Animal shelter vaccinations

Free money for students

BATON ROUGE- The Public Relations Association of Louisiana is now accepting applications for two scholarships for students seeking a public relations or journalism career. Each award is worth $500 and candidates must be full-time undergraduates majoring in public relations or journalism, or working on a degree with emphasis in public relations. Deadline is April 4. Join in alcohol-free weekend

LULING- Alcohol-Free Weekend is observed the first weekend of the Alcohol Awareness Month and is scheduled for April 6-8. During the weekend parents are urged not to consume alcoholic beverages for a 72-hour period to demonstrate to young people that alcohol isn’t necessary to have a good time. When young people drink, they lose.

Heritage day in Destrehan

DESTREHAN- Come out on April 4 at 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. to learn life skills that were necessary to maintain a self-sufficient life on a plantation. Sheriff’s award

LULING- Sheriff Greg Champagne will award a scholarship to a worthy St. Charles Parish student in furthering their education through the Louisiana Sheriff’s Honorary Membership Program. It will be awarded to a graduating high school student from either Hahnville High School or Destrehan High School in the amount of $500. Applications must be submitted by April 1.
