Five school choirs to perform, Santa to make appearance
School choirs, hot chocolate, and most importantly, Santa, will all be at the West Bank Bridge Park on Dec. 10 as the parish ushers in the holiday season with the annual Christmas tree lighting.
The event, sponsored by the Rotary Club of St. Charles Parish, will get underway at 5:45 p.m. when the Cub Scouts present the flag. At 6 p.m., the Lakewood choir will perform followed by R.J. Vial’s school choir at 6:15 p.m.
Fifteen minutes later, the big man himself is expected to make his appearance on board a fire truck. Santa has a bag full of goodies for the kids and will walk through the crowd and pose for pictures with children in attendance.
Parents are asked to bring their own cameras and Santa will have presents for the children, including books and candy canes.
Those not meeting with Santa will be able to watch a performance by the Allemands Cajun Dancers at 6:45 p.m. and will also be treated to a performance by the Ethel Schoeffner, Norco 4-6, and New Sarpy school choirs at 7:15 p.m.
During the event, the American Red Cross will serve hot chocolate. Parish President V.J. St. Pierre will also light the tree.
Rotary also asks that residents bring a new, unwrapped toy to the tree lighting. The toys will be distributed to families in need at a local school holiday celebration.
