What makes them do it?

When a visiting missionary priest from Nigeria spoke at Holy Family Church in Luling last weekend, he told about bombings at his church that killed the priest. He blamed it on terrorist Al Qaeda groups. This made me wonder how people are raised to go out and do this sort of thing – the same sort of thing that the killings in New Orleans seem to replicate more and more. And how about the redheaded joker who took lives in Colorado at the movie theater? What causes people to be this way?

Then I began thinking of the Blessed Virgin Mary and how, with love and care, she raised Jesus. It dawned on me that all mothers should follow her example of love and care for their children.

I have seen too many examples of disregard for children while shopping in the grocery stores, etc. If children cry or ask for something, often they are slapped and more often they are completely ignored. If they are not heard, if they are not directed, they will not know the love and care they need in order to mature into loving and caring adults.

The cycle keeps repeating itself but it needs to stop if we want a better world in which to live.
