Gov. Blanco’s ‘Road Home’ is going to be a LONG one

After over two months, only 18 checks have been written for the Gov. Blanco’s Road Home Program. That’s an average of nine checks per month. Previously, we’ve been told that over 120,000 of us are eligible for the program. However, only 77,000 have even applied.

At the current rate of nine checks a month, if all who applied qualify, it will take 712 years to deposit all the checks into the “disbursement accounts” to begin rebuilding.

Obviously, most folks won’t live long enough to see the money. That’s not such a big deal, however, because given the cost of delivering these checks ($141.23 to give away each dollar as of the end of October.) the overhead will exceed the total revenues available from Congress long before 712 years anyway.

And they wonder why over 40,000 of us didn’t even bother to apply. I guess some of us are better at math than others. That’s why we don’t play the lottery either. Which, by the way, might be a quicker way to get money to rebuild.

The situation would actually be humorous if it wasn’t so pathetic.
