At the sound of the beep …

Comments have been transcribed from the answering machine on our comment line at 985-783-8181. Got something to say? Call.Reader: That “Ask Nattie” advice column in the Herald-Guide is very good. How old is that kid who’s writing it? She’s got a good head on her shoulders.

Editor’s note: Nattie Swan is a Herald-Guide intern from Destrehan High School and she certainly does have a good head on her shoulders. A lot of parents have let us know how much they appreciate reading a teenager’s viewpoints on issues. Nattie’s column helps them better understand their own kids.

Reader: Who’s this Megan writing for you from Hahnville High School? That was a beautiful piece she wrote on Kyle Bergeron and how the kids at Hahnville High are reacting.

Editor’s note: Like Nattie Swan, Megan Waters is a Herald-Guide intern and we’re happy to have her on the team. Her first day on the job, we asked her to write that piece and she rose to the occasion.

Reader: In Sheriff Greg Champagne’s “Christmas message” that you published a week or so ago he starts off by saying there are “no crime trends” to report. How about all these arrests for crack cocaine every week? Isn’t that a crime trend?

Reader: You people must be idiots. You put lots of typographical errors in the paper.

Editor’s note: You’ll get no arguments from me in the typos department. I also defend your right to call us “idiots.” I mean, hey – this is America. I will say that we are determined to publish a newspaper that’s free of typos – and each week, our young staff gets better.
