Gunman on the run after robbing Popeyes

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the armed robbery of a Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen on U.S. Highway 90 in Boutte.

At about 9 a.m. today (Nov. 17), the unidentified suspect apparently entered the restaurant at the rear door when an employee opened it to take out the trash.

Sheriff Greg Champagne said the suspect is a black male wearing a black shirt armed with a revolver. It is believed he acted alone in the robbery.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Corp. James Grimaldi said the suspect entered the restaurant with a “black colored handgun” and demanded money.

The man reportedly entered the building, held employees at gunpoint, took an undetermined amount of cash, exited the same door and fled on foot into a wooded area behind the building.

According to employees, the suspect may have worked at the restaurant because he allegedly addressed workers by their nicknames.

A Popeyes employee reportedly fainted during the robbery and was taken to St. Charles Parish Hospital.

Grimaldi said no one was injured in the robbery.

Anyone with information about the suspect who has been described as “a male clad in dark colored clothing and his face possibly concealed fleeing” from the area of Popeyes this morning is asked to contact Detective Jody Weems at (985)783-1135.
