60-year-old man charged with having sex with teen since victim was 14

A 60-year-old Hahnville man was recently arrested and charged with having a sexual relationship with a teenage victim, starting when the latter was 14.

Alben Cooper, of 135 Oak St. in Hahnville, was arrested Dec. 5 and charged with carnal knowledge of a juvenile. According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, Cooper began the relationship with the male victim that lasted until he was 17 years old. The victim, a Hahnville resident, reported the incidents to detectives.

Cooper is being held at Nelson Coleman Correctional Center on $250,000 bond. Arraignment is set for Dec. 19.

Cooper’s was one of three arrests for sexual misconduct with a minor Dec. 1 – 6.

An arrest was made Dec. 1 after the Sheriff’s Office investigated a 31-year-old man who allegedly propositioned a 14-year-old girl, whose family he was an acquaintance of. According to police, the girl notified a counselor of the incident. The suspect’s name was withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

On Dec. 6, an arrest was made on the West Bank after a victim told detectives a family member she resided with inappropriately touched her on several occasions from the ages of 6 to 11. The suspect’s name was withheld in order to protect the identity of the victim.
