Rain, rain go away … we won’t put off Mardi Gras another day

“Let the music wash your soul

You can mingle in the street

You can jingle to the beat

Of Jelly Roll.”

It’s just like Paul Simon’s song, “Take me to the Mardi Gras,’” says about going to the greatest carnival on earth.

Who can resist Fat Tuesday’s celebration?

For St. Charles Parish, the carnival is going full swing, too.

The parades will roll this weekend with the Krewe of Lul at noon Saturday and the Krewe of Des Allemands at 1 p.m. Sunday.

It’s party time – SCP style.

The revelry of Mardi Gras is upon us so toss on the costume, light up the barbecue pit and pick your best place on the levee for the celebration. Bring the King Cake and the spirits for being with family, friends and the friends you haven’t met yet.

We’re hoping for sunshine, but this year’s Fat Tuesday already looks like it’s going to be great – rain or shine. The Krewe of Lul will have a record 28 floats, as well as units and bands, and the Krewe of Des Allemands is boasting an expanded parade, too.

And let us not forget the parade reveler who stands on the side of the road and lends to the excitement with the words, “Throw me something, Mister!” You’re not just catching beads, you’re paying homage to one of Louisiana’s greatest traditions.

So join the party and sing along:

“Where the people sing and play,

Where the dancing is elite

And there’s music in the street

Both night and day.”

Happy Mardi Gras, St. Charles Parish!
