Let this Christmas season roll

Santa’s coming and in Norco it’s really exciting because it’s on a helicopter.

Bedazzled in bright red and a flowing white beard, he knows the ride because he’s made this special trip to the levee at least since 2001.

His arrival signals the beginning of Christmas in the River Parishes and we can all use the holiday cheer.

Norco residents will tell you it’s absolutely fitting that they get to kick off the season and that’s wonderful, but the real gift may be seeing this parade again itself. No one apparently knows why the parade was discontinued, but we do know it took special people to bring it back.

This glorious spectacle represents a community that cares about being a community, as well as being a family place where everyone can celebrate the most giving time of the year.

This year’s parade theme is “Santa Salutes Our Local Sports,” but every year it’s about celebrating Norco’s love for family.

Along with the Who Dat trucks and 610 Stompers this year will also be the ever present – and appreciated – bands, dancers, fire trucks, queens and just about anything else that can fit in the lineup.

And then there are the crowds of smiling faces increasingly lining the route.

For them, it’s the wonder of seeing St. Charles Parish parading in grand style and then comes Santa.

Yes, he’s real and ready to give everyone the best gift of all – Christmas with a big hug from Norco.
