Both Destrehan and Hahnville high schools will play host to some of the best baseball teams in the area this weekend at the Gerard Oubre Memorial Tournament.
After starting the season with an impressive 8-1 record, the Hahnville Tigers struggled in their toughest stretch of the season, falling to top-ranked Barbe, St. Thomas More and Evangel over the weekend.
The Destrehan softball team continued their hot start by winning all three of their games in the Catfish Classic, which improved their record to 10-3 on the season.
Somebody forgot to tell the Lady Tigers that this was supposed to be a rebuilding year. Despite losing more than half of their starters from last season, Hahnville swept perennial powers Live Oak, Vandebilt Catholic and Chapelle during last weekend’s Catfish Classic to improve to 11-1 on the season.
The Destrehan baseball team, which was already off to its best start in four years, put up an impressive showing at the Jay Patterson Memorial Tournament by going 3-1 with victories over some of the top teams in the area.
