Shane Paul Dufrene

Shane Paul Dufrene, 53, of Hammond, Louisiana passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024, due to complications from a heart attack. Shane was born on Thursday, November 5, 1970, to Lyle and Deborah Dufrene in Raceland, Louisiana. He attended both Ponchatoula High and Hahnville High where he excelled in athletics.

In 1988, he graduated from Hahnville High School and then went on to join the Army National Guard, where he proudly served. During this time, he was in the process of walking on to Louisiana State University’s football team. Due to a life-altering car accident, he was honorably discharged from his duties with the National Guard, and his dream of playing with his beloved Tigers came to an end. Shane was a fighter and didn’t let that stop him from moving forward. He sought employment with UPS and served as a delivery driver for 17 years.

Shane was a die-hard football fan whose heart bled purple and gold; it brought him great joy to talk sports with anyone who would listen. While sports were a big part of Shane’s life, he found joy in crawfish boils with family, watching every movie that hit the big screen, weekends on the river, and cook – off competitions with his brother, Ron.

Shane is survived by his three children, Destiny (Austin Murray) and Bryce Dufrene (Londyn Traylor), and Drew Woodburn, and from a previous marriage, step – children, Shaun, and Cody Douglas all of whom he deeply loved. While he loved his children, he experienced a different kind of love when his granddaughter Dorothy June Murray (Destiny and Austin) made her entrance into the world four years ago. Prior to his passing, he was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his first grandson, Colton (Bryce and Londyn). Along, with his children and grandchildren, he is survived by his parents, Lyle and Deborah Dufrene, brothers, Ron (Becky) and Shon (Melissa) Dufrene, and nieces and nephews, Gabrielle, Brianna, Tanner, and Ashton Dufrene, and Lauren Foto (Bryson).

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Dewey John, and Mathilda Bourgeois Dufrene and maternal grandparents, Billie Pearson Jones (Floyd “Pops”), and Raymond Flynn.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation in the chapel of LN Hughes Funeral Services, 21400 South I-12 Service Road, Ponchatoula, Louisiana on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 4:00 pm until 6:30 pm. The Funeral Service will follow at 6:30 pm with Pastor T. Lobell presiding.
