George “Joe” Thurman Oubre Sr., passed away peacefully on June 28th, 2025, at the age of 95 years old. Born and raised in Norco, Louisiana, George is survived by his seven beloved children Joanne (Jerry) Oubre Morrow, George (Susan) Oubre Jr., Kathy (Dave) Oubre Carnley, Johnny (Lori) Oubre, Babs (Jerry) Oubre Schultz, Rebecca Oubre Abrams, and Melanie Oubre; 23 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents his parents Lezin and Margaret (Maggie) Oubre, and brothers Lezin (Boy) and Roger (Kay) Oubre, and J. Bradley Oubre.
He served in the U.S. Army 47th Infantry Division and graduated from Tulane Law School to become an attorney. He practiced law for 39 years and served in the Louisiana State Senate. He was a devout Catholic, substitute teacher, avid volunteer and activist for causes dear to his heart. George leaves behind a legacy of integrity, compassion and unwavering dedication. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 7 at St. Charles Borromeo Church beginning at 10 a.m. with Mass to follow at noon.
