Local nonprofit to host Reindeer River Run Saturday

Runners assembled for 5K Reindeer River Run.

The Paul Maillard Business & Arts Initiative will host a 5K Reindeer River Run Saturday, Dec. 6 to raise money for art installations around Luling.

Runners can register online or on race day starting at 8 a.m. Registration is $25. Runners are encouraged to wear Christmas attire and costumes.

The race begins at 9 a.m. at the Westbank Levee Trailhead and will continue on the levee toward Hahnville and back. First, second and third place male and female winners will receive a hand-made reindeer. Runners can enjoy pastalaya at the race finish.

Jenny Lendle of the Paul Maillard Business and Art Initiative said 50 runners participated at the event last year, which marked the third year of the nonprofit’s holiday event.

“We are hoping that the attendance increases each year as we do this, as people know we are doing this yearly,” Lendle said. “Our mission is to raise money to have art installations throughout the parish in the Old Luling area. We are hoping to do more in 2026.”

The nonprofit has already commissioned and completed art installations on multiple utility boxes and two large murals in the parish.

Lendle said the nonprofit hopes to have this event every year.

“We hope to get the public together, bring people out to Luling,” she said. “Our hope is to create something that people want to get involved in, come to our events and have a good time.”

The nonprofit also organizes an art show at the Old Church each year in August. The catered event features local artists.

The 5K race is sponsored by Shell, GL reality Group, St. Charles Parish Hospital and Pacers Fitness.
