Child struck by dirt bike in Montz

Airlifted to hospital

A road collision in Montz led to a seven-year-old being airlifted by helicopter for medical treatment and the arrest of 25-year-old man on Saturday.

Randy Bellow, 25, of 206 Hollywood Park Drive in Montz, was arrested and charged with vehicular negligent injury, ATV prohibited on shoulder and obstruction of justice after his dirt bike collided with a boy riding a bicycle in the roadway on Hollywood Park Drive in Montz.

According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, the boy was riding on the side of the roadway as Bellow was riding his motorized dirt bike down the street.

As Bellow attempted to pass the boy, the latter cut into the roadway and was struck by the dirt bike.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Cpl. James Grimaldi said the man reportedly carried the boy to a nearby house to ask for help. Deputies were dispatched to the area at approximately 9:30 p.m. Saturday night.

The boy suffered injuries that required he be airlifted by an Ochsner Flight Care helicopter to University Hospital in New Orleans.

The dirt bike was unregistered, Grimaldi said. He added the obstruction of justice charge came as result of Bellow apparently removing his dirt bike and all debris from the crash scene before deputies arrived to investigate.

Bellow was booked into Nelson Coleman Correctional Facility and released on a bond of $50,000. A court arraignment is set for April 23.
