St. Charles Parish residents must register in advance to secure their spot to the annual Senior Christmas Luncheon. The parish will host this year’s event, which is open to all St. Charles parish residents 55 and up, on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 11 a.m.
Residents can register online through Eventbrite or call the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program at 958-783-8907, according to Francesca Blanchard, a spokesperson for the parish.
She said the pre-registration will ensure no one is turned away at the door this year. Residents must show their ID with a St. Charles Parish address at the door. Blanchard said there are about 550 spots available, and that residents can register up to one additional person in their household when requesting tickets.
“We are really looking forward to [the luncheon],” Blanchard said. “We hope this change in format makes the process easier.”
The parish will host the free event at Edward A. Dufresne Community Center in Luling. The event includes a catered lunch, music and dancing, and photos with Santa Clause.
Blanchard said at past events attendees have worn tacky Christmas sweaters and decorated walkers with LED lights.
“It’s always a great turnout,” Blanchard said. “People come out to socialize and catch up with people they haven’t seen in a while.”
She said community partners donate resources for the event and seniors usually leave the event with a poinsettia and other items.
“We have a larger than ever senior population,” Blanchard said. “It means a lot for us to do something nice for them.”
