Lafon Performing Arts Center features ‘Pete the Cat’ performance

The Lafon Performing Arts Center in Luling will present the family musical “Pete the Cat,” Sunday, Feb. 8 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at lafonarts.org or by calling the box office at 985-331-3670. The show is 50 minutes long.

The musical is based on the popular book series by Kimberly and James Dean, and it follows Pete the Cat after he gets caught rocking out after bedtime. The cat-catcher sends him to live with the Biddle family to learn some manners, but Pete soon gets the whole family rocking. The show is recommended for ages 4 to 9.

The musical is written by Sarah Hammond and Will Aronson.

Ned Moore, director of the Lafon Center, said the musical cast brings characters to life through musical numbers, choreography and theatrical performance. He said families can expect colorful characters, catchy music, themes about friendship and creativity, humor for children and a fun theatrical experience designed specifically for young audiences.

“Audiences will leave with memories of a fun, interactive live theatre experience that brings a beloved children’s book to life,” Moore said. “We hope the performance sparks creativity and imagination in young audiences and fosters a love for music, dance and theatre.”

Moore said he is looking forward to seeing Pete the Cat’s fun, easygoing personality come to life on stage and watching kids light up as they respond to the music, movement and interactive moments.

The Lafon Center will feature the kid-centered musical “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! The Musical” on Sunday, March 8 at 3 p.m.
