A small area consisting of only a few streets has seen a concentration of some of the most violent crimes in the parish over the past few years and residents living there say they are fed up with the senseless murders that have taken teen lives.
Members of the St. Charles School Board’s legislative committee said efforts by the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) to make it unnecessary for teachers to be certified may not be the best path for public education.

Numerous representatives of the St. Charles Parish school and law enforcement communities attended a Homeland Security Committee meeting in Baton Rouge largely in response to the December mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.
DES ALLEMANDS – The Luling Branch Library is holding a film showing of “One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure.” The story introduces young children to the wonders of stargazing with Big Bird and Elmo as their guide. They will join Elmo and his friend from China, Hu Hu Zhu, on an imaginary trip to the Moon and learn how it differs from our home, the Earth.
The approximate show length is 30 minutes and will begin at 10 a.m. on Jan. 26.
Doors open 15 minutes prior to the scheduled showtime. Due to the unusual lighting conditions in the planetarium, no one is allowed to enter once the show has started.
The Luling Branch Library is located at 105 Lakewood Drive in Luling.
DES ALLEMANDS – St. Gertrude Catholic Church will hold a dance Saturday, Jan. 26 beginning at 8 p.m. Cost for entry is $15. Music by “Party of Two” and attendees must bring their own alcohol.
