After struggling to a 1-3 start this season, the Hahnville Tigers won five of their final six games to finish 6-4 and share the district championship with the East St. John Wildcats. Their surge has also propelled them into the 5A state playoffs where they will travel to West Monroe to take on the fifth-ranked Rebels this Friday night.

In what is usually one of the hardest fought games of the season for the Hahnville Tigers and Destrehan Wildcats, this year was no contest. The Hahnville Tigers were able to hold off the John Ehret Patriots with a goal line stand at the end of Friday’s game to take a 28-21 victory and a shot at the district championship this week. With Higgins defeating East St. John as well that night, Hahnville lands in a three-way tie for the district lead.

Better late than never was the theme of the Hahnville Tigers’ 25-8 victory over the Higgins Hurricanes Friday night as the Tigers trailed 8-3 going into the fourth quarter. But the team rebounded with 22 points in the last 10 minutes of the game to pick up their second district win.

It took a while for the Tiger offense to get started Friday night against the Higgins Hurricanes. But once they did, they were hard to stop, scoring 22 fourth quarter points to storm to a 25-8 victory.

The Hahnville Tigers looked very strong at halftime last Friday against a tough St. Augustine team. The defense had just made a crucial stop on a fourth and goal with only seconds remaining in the second quarter and the team took a 21-14 lead into the locker room. However, three second half turnovers changed their fortune as the Purple Knights were the ones who ended up going home with a 40-21 victory.

The past few weeks have not been kind to the Destrehan Wildcats with four consecutive losses to four of the best teams in the state. While that trend seemed like it was going to continue at halftime last Friday as the East Ascension Spartans held a 13-0 lead, the Wildcats pulled out a stunning 27-point second half to take the game 27-20.
