Defeat of a new and more promising health care bill by the Republicans has set the Trump administration back a notch, but chances are it will be revived by Congress in a way that our country can serve the health care needs of its people in a way that can be fair to most of our citizens, rich and poor in the future.

Louisiana is still heading in the right direction in its efforts to restore and rebuild its coast, but unfortunately it is taking a while to get things moving. And by the time we get what our coast needs, it may be on its last leg of solidity.

Though neither Destrehan nor Hahnville will be competing for a state championship Friday night as the prep football season concludes, St. Charles Parish fans have plenty to be proud of when it comes to their local teams.

With the outpouring of shots fired in killings around the world in recent weeks, it seems we may be in for stricter gun laws. It does seem the logical way to reduce the death toll from gunfire is to make it tougher to fire the shots that make it happen.

Hopefully, it is becoming less mainstream to kill human life in our world through abortion. It appears that way in our area at least as an abortion facility planned in May 2013 in the 4600 block of South Claiborne Ave. in New Orleans has yet to get off the ground.

One of them was in a runoff for governor against Edwin Edwards in which bumper stickers advertised “Vote for the crook. It’s important.” And they elected Edwards.

The United States needs to push its efforts to get other countries together on disagreements that seem to be tearing the world apart on issues such as creating a Palestinian state before a peace treaty is signed between the two countries. And there are other matters of concern, especially in the Middle East where forces of various views are trying to take control.
