The Destrehan offense continued to make headlines after leading the Wildcats to a 55-12 demolishing of Helen Cox last week. However, the offense will face their first true test of the season when the Wildcats head to Dutchtown Friday night.

In their second home of the year, the Hahnville Tigers (1-1) are set to take on the Landry-Walker Buccaneers (2-0). They will have to do so without quarterback Dylan Keller, who started the first two games for the Tigers before suffering a shoulder injury last Friday.

Only a sophomore, big Destrehan defensive end Ed Leonard finished with 5 tackles, but it was his ability to rush the passer on almost every play that helped lead DHS to the win.

Hahnville linebacker Daquante’ Taylor was all over the field for the tigers and finished with double-digit tackles against Salmen. His tackle total led the Hahnville defense.

Hahnville quarterback Dylan Keller was the Tigers workhorse against Salmen, rushing for 63 yards and two touchdowns. He also completed four passes for 31 yards in the HHS win.

The Destrehan offense couldn’t have gotten off to a better start in the season opener, scoring on all seven of their possessions in the first half in a 54-22 win over West Jefferson. Now, Wildcat head coach Stephen Robicheaux just hopes his squad’s offensive success continues when Destrehan hosts Helen Cox at 7 p.m. this Friday.

Hahnville junior Kendrick Jones became the second wrestler in his school’s history to win a state championship when he claimed a 4-2 sudden victory over Daniel Relayson of Holy Cross in the finals of the 195-pound weight class.
