Learn to paint with Art Guild

LULING - The St. Charles Art Guild will hold a workshop with featured artist Martha Guthrie, a nationally known Louisiana watercolorist. The workshop will be held at the First Union Presbyterian Church, Lakewood Drive in Luling, on Oct 14-16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The fee is $50 for guild members and $60 for non-members.

Schools host Transition Fair

LULING - St. Charles Parish Public Schools will host the 2010-2011 Bridging the Gap Transition Fair on Oct. 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Professional Learning Center, previously the old K-Mart building. This is an event to bring awareness about children with disabilities from birth to 22 about services for their families. Many community organizations will attend, including the Social Security Administration, Early Head Start, Medicaid, and Delgado Community College. Tour the parish

ST. CHARLES PARISH - The St. Charles Parish government will offer a behind-the-scenes look at parish infrastructure during a fall “Info Tour.” Tours will be held on the East Bank on Oct. 14 and on the West Bank on Oct. 15. Each tour will be from 8 a.m. to noon. Both tours will meet at the parish courthouse in Council chambers, 15045 River Road in Hahnville. The tour is free and transportation is provided.

Breast Cancer awareness event

LULING - St. Charles Community Health Center, Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, New Orleans Affiliate and Louisiana Breast Cancer Task Force, will join with Dr. Rachel Bezdek OB-GYN and two guest speakers who are breast cancer survivors in raising awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection for women on Oct. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the St Charles Community Health Center, 843 Milling Ave. in Luling.

Volunteer with CASA

ST. CHARLES PARISH - Child Advocacy Services is looking for volunteers for the Court Appointed Special Advocates program. Volunteers will be the voice for children in the community who have been victims of abuse or neglect. There are currently 20 children in the river parishes that are waiting for a volunteer to help them. The training session will begin on Oct. 12. ACT prep available for all parish students

ST. CHARLES PARISH - Two ACT preparation sessions will be available to students on Oct. 9. A morning session will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and an afternoon session will be held from 1-4 p.m. at Destrehan High School. Students may attend both sessions.

Registration forms can be found on the high school Web sites or in either high school‘s office, counselor’s office or the reception desk at the School Board office.
