|Transit authority to hold meeting April 2

LAPLACE - The River Parishes Transit Authority will hold a regular meeting on Wednesday, April 2 at 3:30 p.m. at the Port of South Louisiana located at 171 Belle Terre Blvd.
Any individual requiring reasonable accommodation is requested to contact the South Central Planning and Development Commission at 985-851-2900 to discuss the particular accommodations needed three days in advance of the meeting.

Hahnville High School girls volleyball tryouts for the 2008-2009 school year will be held on April 28, 29 and 30 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the main gym.

Javelins flew across clear blue skies on March 27 as older athletes from all over the parish participated in the 2008 Senior Olympic competition games in Hahnville. Event winners will move on to the state competition and winners from there go on to the nationals.

The current controversy surrounding Councilman & Fire Chief Larry Cochran and the St. Rose Volunteer Fire Department needs to be resolved in a fair, open, transparent, and unbiased manner. I sincerely hope that after such review, Mr. Cochran and the members of the fire department will emerge vindicated of any wrongdoing.

In an effort to raise the spirits of the students at St. Bernard Unified School during the months following Hurricane Katrina, an art teacher drew on an old shrimper tradition and had the students paint a picture describing what Louisiana means to them on a white shrimper’s boot.

Charleston James Badeaux passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 10:40 a.m. at St. Charles Parish Hospital, Luling. Age 50. A native of lifelong resident of Destrehan. He was a Deckhand with Gnots Fleet and of the Catholic faith. Son of MaryBelle Badeaux of Destrehan.

Leopold Baptist Borne, Jr., sandblaster-painter for Shell Chemical, died on Monday, March 24, 2008 at 12:30 p.m. at his residence of 7 years in Ponchatoula Age 82. A native of Edgard and had lived in Norco for the past 56 years.
