At 90 years old, the Krewe of Lul’s grand marshal can be hard to catch up with. Between going to the fitness center three times a week, volunteering within the community and continuing his late wife’s business, Hurschel Burleigh doesn’t have much time to talk about his role in Mardi Gras.

When you see the Krewe of Des Allemands grand marshal, you might think you’re seeing double. But, in fact, this year’s honoree is two people.

While the world is hearing about Rex, Zulu and Muses, St. Charles is preparing for its own Mardi Gras revelry. Set to roll on Feb. 14 and 15, respectively, the Krewes of Lul and Des Allemands have selected their royalty.

The St. Charles Humane Society received an $1,800 check as a result of a Hahnville student’s senior project. Colin Troxler coordinated a golf tournament fundraiser as part of his final project, with the proceed benefiting the Human Society.

Gina Granger holds a laminated copy of a newspaper article on the opening of the Satellite Center, taken from a time capsule buried on the grounds of the school.
