A trip to the mall or a stroll through the New Orleans French Market all seem like ideal day trips, but a few days ago I went shopping for something that will literally change my life forever - a new eye.

Sandra Antoinette and Lee Jaysen Chambers of Vernon Hills, Ill., announce the birth of their fourth child, a son, Jeremy Patrick, born June 18 weighing 9 pounds, 15.5 ounces. He is welcomed by two brothers, Joshua Adam, 6, and Andrew Joseph, 4, and sister, Sarah Christine, 1. Maternal grandparents are Shirley and Irvin Naquin of Destrehan, and paternal grandparents are Janice and Joe Chambers of River Ridge.

I can remember it all very well looking back on my first semester as a freshman at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond when I first stepped foot onto the campus in January 2000.

The Sound of Music. One local opera singer is improving the quality of sound in the parish. Missy Brezinsky teaches voice lessons from a decidedly professional angle and has performed in over a dozen leading roles at numerous opera companies including the Seattle and the Pittsburgh Operas.
