MVP. Hahnville High School track runner Precious Singleton of Ama was awarded the Most Valuable Player award at the St. James High School Crawfish Relays on March 14.

Javelins flew across clear blue skies on March 27 as older athletes from all over the parish participated in the 2008 Senior Olympic competition games in Hahnville. Event winners will move on to the state competition and winners from there go on to the nationals.

Two boys were selected as All-American players from the 8-year-old St. Charles Parish All-Star team during the International Biddy Tournament held in Thibodaux.

RUN WATKINS RUN. Two-time 5A all-state outfielder Trey Watkins had an unbelievable day for Destrehan when his team faced off against Jesuit. Watkins finished with four home runs on the day, driving in nine runs. One of those blasts proved to be the winnin Destrehan, Hahnville head into DISTRICT PLAY

Destrehan and Hahnville have rolled out to almost identical starts in the 2008 season, but one team will get an early lead in the race for the playoffs when the two schools meet to open district play on March 20.

Three years in the works, Nicholls State University (NSU) celebrated the grand opening of the $12.6 million Lanny D. Ledet Culinary Arts Building, new home of the Chef John Folse Culinary Institute, with a ribbon cutting held at the building site.
