The St. Charles Herald-Guide won 13 first-place awards and was named the state’s Newspaper of the Year by the Louisiana Press Association on Saturday.
This is the second consecutive year the Herald-Guide has been awarded Newspaper of the Year and the third time the newspaper has received this award in the last five years. The Herald-Guide also was named the winner of the General Excellence award, which honors quality editorial and advertising content.
“We are thrilled that our hard work was recognized by the judges,” Publisher Jonathan Menard said. “We strive to put out a quality product each week, and our wonderful staff makes that possible.”
Managing Editor Anna Thibodeaux and Editor Ryan Arena combined to sweep the individual news categories. Thibodeaux won first place in both the Best News Story and Best Breaking News Story categories, while Arena took home first place in Best Feature Story.
The Herald-Guide’s website, www.heraldguide.com, was named the best website in the state, while the newspaper’s popular Camera Shootout photo contest was picked by judges as the Best Web Project.
The Herald-Guide won a host of advertising accolades, with Designer Alissa Zeringue taking home first-place awards in three different categories, including Best Ad Campaign, Best Online Advertising – Single Ad, and Best Online Advertising Campaign.
Designer Jeff Cashio was honored with a first-place award for Best Multiple Advertiser Page, while Art Director Rodney Anouilh picked up a win in the Best In-Paper Promotion category.
Menard won first place in Best Success Story of an Ad.
“Our advertisers have grown accustomed to our design staff’s high quality of work,” Menard said. “Not only do our ads look fantastic, but they help get our advertisers’ message out to the public. Our staff is able to turn any challenge into a success.”
In addition to 13 first-place awards, the Herald-Guide took home six second-place awards and finished third in five categories.
