Becnel focuses on recording new music as American Idol run ends

Faith Becnel’s American Idol journey may have ended Sunday night, but the Destrehan native insists it’s only the beginning of her musical career.

Becnel has been part of this season of the popular singing competition show. Sunday night’s show saw the top 20 contestants whittled down to the top 10.

“To see how much people care about my success … that to me is the most touching thing ever,” Becnel said of the outpouring and love and support she received when news spread she had not made the top 10.

Becnel said as her American Idol journey ends, her own journey as a musical artist is just beginning.

“This journey has been more than anything I could’ve dreamed of,” Becnel said. “I met the most amazing, beautiful people and experienced beautiful places. I learned so much about myself, the music business and what it takes to achieve my dreams.”

This week Becnel will head into a studio to record her own original music for the first time, something she said she is both excited and nervous about.

“I may release them as singles, but I am definitely working on a 6 song EP of all sings I’ve written,” she said. “I know I need to get things out quickly because of the exposure with American Idol.”

Becnel said her performance schedule for the next couple of months is up in the air because of the coronavirus pandemic, but that she is excited to continue to update her social media pages, YouTube channel and website so people can follow along in her career. She said once gatherings can be safely held, she would love to host a meet and greet for fans.

“I definitely want to say thank you for the love and support,” Becnel said.

Becnel recorded her first CD, “I Believe”, at 12 years old and formed her own band by age 13. In the years since, she’s made several television and radio appearances on local news outlets. She’s performed throughout Louisiana and surrounding states at events such as Alligator Fest, Andouille Fest, French Quarter Fest and Sacred Heart Fair. She’s also performed on stage with famous Louisiana artists and bands including Vince Vance, Irma Thomas, Rockin’ Dopsie Jr. and The Top Cats.

“I’m not going anywhere,” she said. “This is the beginning.”
