American Legion blood drive, collection for Veterans Home on Dec. 2

The American Legion Post 131 will host a “Mr. Charlie Oubre Jr.” Memorial Blood Drive with the Ochsner Blood Bank 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 2 at the post, 103 Million Ave., Luling. Donors are encouraged to eat a healthy meal prior to donating and bring a photo ID. Individuals taking medications for high blood pressure and cholesterol can donate.

All donors will receive a Saints Blood Bank T.-shirt, and a meal will be served to all donors.

Also, the post will collect items for the South Louisiana War Veterans Home in LaPlace, also during the blood drive. New items are needed, including T-shirts (large, extra large and 2X large), drawstring pants (medium and large), puzzles (1,000 pieces), Hershey Bars, hot Styrofoam cups, Kleenex, slippers for men (various sizes), toothbrushes, toothpaste, Efferdent (denture cleaner), denture adhesive, cough drops, shampoo (regular size) and white crew socks.

Anyone interested in joining the American Legion is encouraged to visit and talk with a Post 131 counselor during the blood drive.
