Hahnville High School choir members lend a hand in hurricane relief efforts

Several members of the HHS choir recently lent a hand in Hurricane Ida relief efforts.

Beth Dupuy knew just where to turn when she needed volunteers to help with New Life Community Church’s Hurricane Ida relief efforts.

Dupuy works part-time at the church and is also the choir director at Hahnville High School. She said she kept in touch with her choir members virtually when they first became separated from school because of the storm.

“Another lady and I started some relief efforts to feed the linemen at the church,” Dupuy said. “I reached out to the choir kids to see if they could help. As our relief efforts grew and expanded, we started not only feeding the linemen but proving meals and opening up our church to give out supplies.”

Dupuy said the choir’s outpouring of support was more than she expected.

“I had so much response from the choir and their families,” she said. “I had so many volunteers I didn’t know what to do with them … for six days all of the relief efforts were run by the choir and their friends and families.”

Dupuy said she had no reservations about asking the high schoolers for help.

“I had complete trust and confidence in them. I knew I would not have any issues … they are all hard workers and ready to do anything I ask,” she said. “Most of them were looking for something to do and some way to get involved … they kept asking to come back. They really enjoyed helping others and I was really impressed with them.”

Choir members and other students who participated in the relief efforts include Tonya Chaney, Jaci Gross, Kaili Bush. Adalynne Saxton, Liliana Gilmore, Gianna Gilmore, Andrew Daniels, Chase Armstrong, Madison Pitchford, Eric Brennan, Alyssa McNeely, Mysti Odom, Emily Ayton, Grace Ayton, Annabelle Farizo, Julia Farizo, Ella Matherne, Samantha Todaro, Timothy Gann, Micah Lamers, Bryson Dupuy, Jolie Dupuy, Hailey Salazar, Kacy Tripkovich, Kayla Martin, Alana Folse, Emma Zammit, Michael Odom and Jaiden Odom.
