Placed on 3 years of probation, receives deferred prison sentence
An 18-year-old Hahnville man arrested in May after police say he had multiple sexual encounters with a 12-year-old girl was put on probation after pleading guilty to a charge of obscenity.
Layne Tregre, 18, of 223 Nicole Lane in Hahnville, was arrested May 1 and initially charged with contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile in addition to two counts of aggravated rape.
He can avoid a deferred prison sentence of three years by fulfilling the terms of his probation, which includes a job search of at least two attempts a week until he is employed, two counseling and psychotherapy sessions a month and enrollment into a GED or adult education program.
St. Charles Parish deputies found Tregre with the girl after conducting a vehicle stop at the West Bank Bridge Park in Luling — the scene was suspicious because Tregre’s vehicle was at the park after it was closed, according to St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Cpl. James Grimaldi.
According to parish law, it is illegal for any person to be on site at a public park or use the facilities in any way from 10 p.m. through 5 a.m. unless they possess a permit to do so.
A detective arrived to investigate and learned Tregre had allegedly had more than one sexual encounter with the girl since April.
Tregre knew the girl as he was an acquaintance of her family, according to Grimaldi.
