Darius Reynaud will turn pro early

Former Hahnville High School all-state running back Darius Reynaud, who has enjoyed a stellar college career at West Virginia, has decided to leave the Mountaineers a year early and throw his name in to the 2008 April draft according to his mother, Katrina.

Reynaud, a 5-10, 200 pound junior, led the Mountaineers in receptions in 2007 with 64 catches for 733 yards, for an average of 11.5 yards per catch and he scored 12 touchdowns.

The second-team All Big-East performer also had 11 rushes for 103 yards and 1 score last season. The big-play athlete had 22 plays of 20 yards or more in 2007.

He finished his three-year career with 19 touchdown receptions, which ties him for third in Mountaineer history, along with 1,126 yards in kickoff returns and 3,086 all-purpose yards.

Reynaud projects as a fourth or fifth round pick for the 2008 April draft.

Young Commits to Southeastern, Byrd visits Auburn

Hahnville quarterback B. J. Young has verbally committed to play football at Southeastern Louisiana.

Young, who threw 29 touchdown passes in his first year as a starter at quarterback for the Tigers, had been pursued by UL-Lafayette and Samford.

The 6-2, 190 pound quarterback was highly thought of do to his arm strength, his ability to make all the throws to play at the Division I level and his intelligence.

Young becomes the third River Parish quarterback to accept a college scholarship following Destrehan’s Jordan Jefferson, who will be attending LSU and Lutcher quarterback Blaine Gautier, who has verbally committed to play for UL-Lafayette.

Hahnville standout wide receiver LaRon Byrd visited Auburn this past weekend and Tiger officials showed him the red-carpet treatment.

Byrd, a 6-3, 190 pound end, had visited Tulane University in early December and he has tentatively scheduled visits to Mississippi State this coming weekend and Miami (Fla.) on Feb. 1.

New Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino is trying to convince the big-play wide out to visit the Arkansas campus the final weekend in January.
