After last year’s catastrophic hurricane season and Subtropical Storm Alberto kicking off this year’s Atlantic hurricane season before it began, the need to be prepared is clear.
“2017 was marked with record-setting disasters,” said Red Cross Regional CEO Joshua Joachim. “In just 45 days during the later half of 2017, the Red Cross responded to six of the year’s largest and most complex disasters. This included back-to-back hurricanes with Harvey, Irma, Maria and Nate, the deadliest week of wildfires in California history, and the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history in Las Vegas.”
For the South, last year’s recording setting storm season is why the American Red Cross is emphasizing preparedness at the earliest possible time, as well as beefing up its own operations to quicken responsiveness.
“With the prediction of the active storm season and last year showing what those predictions resulted in gives us plenty reason to be vigilant,” said Joachim.
