Quinton Torbor is the second seed in the Class 5A high jump.

The Hahnville Tigers and Destrehan Wildcats are set to be well-represented in the upcoming LHSAA Class 5A state track and field championships after earning a number of qualifiers at the Region III-5A meet at Hahnville last Thursday.

After its boys earned a district championship and its girls took a runner-up finish in the District 7-5A track and field meet, the Tigers will compete in eight events at state, while Destrehan – whose boys earned runner-up at the district meet – ticketed five competitors to go on to the state championship meet, which will be held Saturday at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium.

Hahnville’s Mike Gray and Destrehan’s Quinton Torbor highlight the individual field as both enter their respective events as No. 2 seeds. Gray will enter the boys triple jump in strong position after setting a mark of 43-02.75 at the regional, while Torbor’s high jump mark of 6-02 earned him his high seeding after helping to lead the DHS boys to a district runner-up finish. The Wildcats’ 4×400 team joins them as No. 2 seeds as the DHS 4×400 relay squad (Devin Boutte, Desmond Parker, Nathan Higdon and Devin Christopher) recorded a regional time of 3:24.55.

Destrehan’s Devin Boutte is seeded third in the boys 800 after recording a time of 1:57.97, while the Hahnville 4×200 team of Kevell Byrd, Ashlyn Jack, Yelah Moses, Ashlyn Jack and Alexis Williams enter as another third seed (1:42.80 at the regional)

Other among the HHS girls include Jyia Joseph, who will be seeded 5th in the high jump after setting a regional mark of 5-02. Alexis Williams earned the fifth seed in the 400 (56.67 at regional), Ashlyn Jack will be seeded sixth in the 300 hurdles (47.29). Emily Blanchard will be the No. 9 seed in the 3200 meter run (12:28.93). The 4×400 relay team (Jack, Williams, Alexandra Johnson and Byrd) is seeded sixth (4:02.86).

Destrehan, meanwhile, will see Jala Richard compete in the girls long jump as the 5th seed (17-03) and the triple jump as the sixth seed (35-06).
