Case of missing former Destrehan High student still open

Three months after a former Destrehan High School student and football player was reported missing, police say the case has yet to be resolved.

The case of Matthew Young, 19, is still open, according to the New Orleans Police Department.  In January, Young was reported missing from the 2000 block of Lakeshore Drive in New Orleans. He had last been seen in December by his mother.

Young was registered at the University of New Orleans and scheduled to attend classes starting Jan. 17. Young is described as being approximately 6-foot, 1-inch tall and 230 pounds with a birthmark above his left eye.

A 2016 DHS graduate, he played football at the school, starring for the Wildcats as a linebacker and defensive end. Young made 21 tackles to go with two sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss as a senior and was an All-District Team selection.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to call Third District detectives at (504) 658-6030 or 911.
