Destrehan running back John Emery still has his senior season with the Wildcats ahead of him, but he’s already got his share of offers to play at the collegiate level — including one from the defending National Champions.
Emery received an official offer from the University of Alabama this month, the Crimson Tide added to a list of suitors that include LSU, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida State, who have extended offers of their own.
The 6-foot, 200 pound back is considered by many as the state’s top running back recruit in the Class of 2019. Despite missing several games due to a broken wrist suffered against East St. John in Week 6 of the regular season, Emery rushed for 1,004 yards and eight touchdowns while catching 19 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns as a junior. In his sophomore season, he rushed for 1,323 yards and scored 15 touchdowns while splitting time with then-starter Kristian Mosley, averaging 10.6 yards per carry.
“He’s one of best running backs in the state and maybe the nation,” said Destrehan coach Stephen Robicheaux. “He’s a versatile kid who can run, make all the moves and catch ball out backfield. He’s a real smooth guy that’s a truly good back.
“He fights and fights and fights. I’ll take him any day. I want him on my team any day.”
