A man faces a charge of attempted first-degree murder after allegedly attacking his friend with a knife at a St. Rose gas station, resulting in the victim being transported to a hospital for critical care.
According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, Sylvester Pines, 29, of 111 Highway 411 in Holden, was recently arrested after an altercation began between Pines and the victim at the RaceTrac gas station in St. Rose.
As the fight escalated, Pines allegedly cut the victim on his head with a knife.
The victim was transported to a New Orleans hospital and was initially listed in critical condition, though he has since been released from the hospital.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Cpl. James Grimaldi said both the victim and suspect show addresses in Hammond and that they stopped at the RaceTrac for fuel.
The two were traveling together.
Grimaldi added the cause of their argument was unclear as each offered conflicting statements.
When deputies arrived, Pines was still on scene and was arrested.
Pines is being held at Nelson Coleman Correctional Facility on a bond of $100,000.
A court arraignment is set for Dec. 12.
