Medical Spotlight: St. Charles Parish Hospital

Since 1959, St. Charles Parish Hospital has been providing quality healthcare to the residents of this community and, as part of Ochsner Health System, now offers access to world-class care that is unmatched throughout the River Parishes.

By recently upgrading to the industry-leading Epic electronic medical record software, St. Charles Parish Hospital has greatly expanded its ability to coordinate patient care across the entire Ochsner Health System, meaning that, no matter which Ochsner facility a patient chooses to visit, the medical staff at that facility will have full access to the patient’s medical record, ensuring the highest quality of care.

Dr. Aderonke Akingbola earned her medical degree from the University of Ibadan College of Medicine in Nigeria. She completed her rotational internship at Adeoyo General Hospital, Ibadan Nigeria before relocating to the United States. This was followed by a residency in Internal Medicine at St. John Hospital/Wayne State University, Detroit, MI. She then completed fellowship training at Tulane University Hospitals in New Orleans in 1999. Dr. Akingbola is board certified in Gastroenterology.

Dr. Sonia Alencherry earned her medical degree from St. Matthew’s University. She then completed a Family Medicine Residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center located in New Orleans, LA. Dr. Alencherry served as Chief Resident during her final year of training. She is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. Alencherry is also a member of the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. Tlaloc Alferez earned her medical degree from Autonomous University of Guadalajara. Following graduation, she completed an Internal Medicine residency at Tulane University School of Medicine and an Infectious Diseases fellowship at Tulane University School of Medicine. Dr. Alferez has been on staff at St. Charles Parish Hospital since March 2014.

Dr. Walter Birdsall earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine. Following graduation, he completed his internship and residency at LSU in Family Medicine. Dr. Birdsall has been on staff at Ochsner since 1996. Dr. Birdsall is board certified by the American Board of Family Practice.

Y’Annika Edwards, NP earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree followed by a Master of Science in Nursing degree from Southern University and A&M College located in Baton Rouge. Prior to joining the Ochsner team, Y’Annika worked as a Registered Nurse gaining experience in the areas of ICU, medical-surgical unit, and long-term care.

Dr. Domenick Grieshaber is a native New Orleanian. He earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University in New Orleans where he graduated in 2009. Dr Grieshaber then completed his residency in anesthesiology at Ochsner Clinic Foundation. He then completed a fellowship in Pain Management at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.

Dr. Marc Labat earned his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and completed a fellowship in Toxicology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He served as Emergency Medicine Physician and Partner at Questcare Partners before joining Ochsner Emergency Department as a staff physician.

Dr. Robert Marroquin earned his medical degree from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. He is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.
