The St. Charles Parish Procurement Office is now hosting their auction online.
“This is the first time that our auction is taking place completely online,” Procurement Agent Jill Schmill said. “Rather than selling all of the surplus items at one event, it allows us to sell them throughout the year.”
Items will be placed up for bid at www.publicsurplus.com.“By using the online auction process the parish has more flexibility to hold auctions as needed,” Executive Director of Procurement and Government Buildings Darrin Duhe said.
“This keeps us from having to store items for long periods of time between auction periods. As items are declared surplus they are able to be listed to the auction site. We anticipate having several auctions this year.”
Under the “Browse Auctions within Area” section residents can find the St. Charles Parish President’s Office’s listing. Items up for auction will be added to the listing as they become available. All items are being sold as-is and where-is, and no warranty is given as to the usefulness or merchantability of any item sold. There will be no refunds.
Current items up for bid include a Ford F-250 XL Super Duty truck, three Ford Rangers, a Dodge Ram 3500 and Dodge Dakota, office furniture and other vehicles and items. That should be usual fare, Duhe explained.
“For the most part I expect it to be mostly vehicles and office furniture,” Duhe said. “However, whatever you would find in a traditional auction you will find in an online auction.”
State law prohibits parish employees and members of employee’s immediate families from buying items at parish surplus auctions. This includes an employee’s children, brothers, sisters, spouses of brothers and sisters, parents spouse and spouse’s parents.
Duhe said the parish will advertise all items going up for auction in the St. Charles Herald Guide and that most auctions will last between seven and 10 days. All payments will be made through the online auction house. One does not have to register to view the items but one must register to bid.
There is no cost to bid however a buyer’s premium is charged to the winner of each auction.
The current auction ends Monday Feb. 29.
“We already have items ready to go for the next auction which will be late March or early April,” Duhe said.
