Hahnville boys soccer team gets back on track with district win

The Hahnville boys soccer team got back on the winning track with a district win against South Lafourche on the road in Cut Off. The long trip to South Lafourche, plus the cold weather, didn’t hold these Tigers back from posting 5 goals and only allowing 1.

The Tigers started out with very good ball control and constant pressure on the Tarpons defense. This pressure would eventually cause a mistake by a Tarpon defender, who got called with an obstruction foul in their own penalty box.

The indirect free kick was taken by Tiger senior Craig Ford after an in-play tap by Brennen Samaha. Ford’s shot was a blast that the goalkeeper could not handle giving HHS the 1-0 lead.

Tiger senior midfielders Austin Reyes and Kyle Salles helped control the game from there, keeping the ball mostly on the Tarpons half of the field. This constant and very consistent ball control with passes through the Tarpons defense gave Hahnville plenty of goal-scoring opportunities.

Samaha took advantage after receiving a pass from Ford and slamming the ball into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.Hahnville increased the lead after a steal by senior midfielder Chase Ledet set up another goal. After the steal, Ledet passed the ball to Ford, who found Coby Orgeron streaking towards the goal.

Orgeron drilled the ball into the back of the net to give Hahnville a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, South Lafourche started by applying pressure, but they were shut down by senior defenders Bailey Breaux, Brooks Duhe, Thane Jurenka and Lance Dupont. This helped the Tiger midfield get back to their possession game.

Breaux came through with a steal and passed to ball to Samaha, who then found Ford.

Ford got the pass to senior midfielder Dakota Evans in the Tarpon goal box.

Evans worked the ball towards the goal and tapped it in to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead.

The Tarpon’s would end up getting a goal off of a mis-cleared ball, but Breaux headed in the fifth Tiger goal to put South Lafourche away.

The Tigers followed the big win with a 3-2 victory a day later against East Jefferson.

East Jefferson took an early lead in the first half, but the Tigers came out strong in the second.

Salles tied the game at 1-1 with a nice shot. Then, Brooks Duhe helped set up the go-ahead score after getting a steal and passing the ball to Griffin Jolliboix. Jolliboix worked the ball up the sideline before finding Ford open.

Ford cruised past one defender, took the shot and scored to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.

East Jefferson managed to tie the game late in the second half, but the Tigers weren’t done yet.

With time running out, Samaha took a shot on goal but the keeper couldn’t get a good grip on it. Ford crashed in, stole the ball and scored to give Hahnville the 3-2 win.

The Tigers are currently in a three-way tie for first place in District 7-5A with Destrehan and Central Lafourche.
