HAHNVILLE - A cost-of-living increase and other salary hikes totalling $1 million are flowing to St. Charles Parish employees as part of a $90 million budget for 2007 that includes $20 million for west bank levee improvements to protect residents from flooding in a big hurricane like Katrina.

THE "buggy equivalent" of a 100-year hurricane has slammed into St. Charles Parish with residents from Norco, Ama and Kenner to Boutte, Paradis, Bayou Gauche and Des Allemands complaining that this season's crop of insects is the worst they've ever seen.

HAHNVILLE - Super-fit Kelly McNulty stays that way by belly-dancing for fun and also showing other women how to enjoy the ancient art form in classes at Hahnville High School.
"It's interesting and it's a fun and free-spirited form of dance," says McNulty, who's taught continuing-education classes for St. Charles Parish Schools for the past two years.

Louisiana education officials released school performance scores just days ago and seven St. Charles Parish elementary schools received an impressive three-star ranking. They are: A.A. Songy Sr. Kindergarten, Ethel Schoeffner Elementary, Lakewood Elementary, Mimosa Park Elementary, New Sarpy Elementary, New Sarpy Kindergarten, and Norco Elementary K-3.
