For Wayne Baloney and A.M. Charles, providing an opportunity for young men to play a sport that they love was an easy endeavor. As members of the First Baptist Church of Paradis, these two men, thirteen years ago, made an idea come alive as they established their Annual Christian Basketball Tournament.

Life for Trey Montgomery has changed tremendously since he left the halls of Destrehan High School in May of 2005. His first year at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama gave him a better opportunity to see what life will require from him to be successful.

Graduating May 18, Reginald R. Lumar is ready for the next phase of his journey. His decision to accept a full basketball scholarship to Bossier Parish Community College in Bossier, Louisiana is just the beginning that he is very excited about.

With the loss of several leading players from last year, the Destrehan Wildcats managed to complete their season taking second in the district. They entered into the playoffs tackling one game at a time.

Destrehan Girl's Softball Team placed second in the district and ended their season losing in the first round of the play-offs against Natchitoches Central with a score of 4-1.

It is that time of year again when our young children will begin to discover their field of dreams.
Alex Waltz, now 15, has loved the game of baseball since the age of two. “He started with a plastic Coke bottle as his bat and the cap to the bottle as his ball,” said his mother Shannon Waltz. “He loves the game; he has a passion for the game,” adding that the Booster Club has allowed his dream to become a reality at a young age.

In both rivalry games against Destrehan, Hahnville's program of excellence won them the rightful title of District 5-5A Champions. In their game on Thursday, Hahnville beat Destrehan 14-10. On Saturday, Hahnville took their second victory against Destrehan with a win of 2-0.

Destrehan hosted their annual Invitational on April 13. The participating teams, including Destrehan. were East St. John, McMain, Hahnville, Higgins and West St. John.
|Recreation Spring soccer in full bloom

Spring Recreation Soccer is in full swing and over 100 girls and boys in St. Charles Parish are participating. This pass weekend, three of the teams traveled to Baton Rouge to represent St. Charles Parish in the Red Stick Tournament. Those teams are the U-19 boys-Tornadoes, U-13 boys-United and the U-12 boys- Patriots.

The boys and girl tennis teams at Destrehan High School are expecting some great things this year. Because of Hurricane Katrina, the girls and boys teams have only one team in their district. They are scheduled to play Hahnville on Friday.

The Don Raymond Relays certainly is a place to find good talent in track and field. High schools from the surrounding areas participated on Friday at Hahnville High School. However, for the Hahnville girls and boys team, winning was not an option but a plan. They both successfully took first place in the Don Raymond Relays.
