Normally when I have talked about the New Orleans Saints being part of NFL history it has been because of something on the negative side for our guys in the black and gold.

The 11-12 year old Mimosa Mustangs recently won the St. Charles Parish Football Championship. The Mustangs defeated the Boutte Hurricanes 14-0 at Destrehan High School’s stadium.

Only five days after winning their second straight Class 5A state championship, the Destrehan Wildcats were attacked by a foe that they couldn't prepare for.

The Hahnville Boys' soccer team participated in the Pearl River High School Invitational Soccer tournament on Dec. 5 and 6. The Tigers' defeated East Jefferson on Dec. 5, but lost Saturday morning to Pope John Paul 1-0. The Tigers defeated Shaw that afternoon 3-0 to advance to the finals where they fell again to Pope John Paul 3-2 in the Finals.

Destrehan is one win away from returning to the Class 5A state championship, though they needed a big time comeback against Higgins to get into this Friday's semifinal game with Baton Rouge Central.

The undefeated Des Allemands Gators won their 24th game in a row in their second season to win the title of St. Charles Parish Champions in the 6-7-8-year-old division.

Both Destrehan and Hahnville girls soccer teams are perfecting techniques and busy practicing for the annual Battle on the Bayou tournament which is set for Dec. 6 and 7 at the J.B. Martin/R.J. Vial Soccer Complex in Paradis.

With four games left to play the Saints are 6-6 and with Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit and Carolina left on the schedule the Saints are starring at the 7-9 finish of 2007.
